Scan a fighter.
Claim your city.

BattleMaps is a location-based "King of the Hill" fighting game. Scan any barcode or QR code to discover one of 100,000+ fighters, raise it, train it and gear it up. Then take it onto the real-world map to claim restaurants, parks, shops and landmarks, and defend them from other players.

Point your camera at any barcode or QR code. The code decides your fighter.

New fighters start small at level 1. Keep them fed and happy while they grow.

Train & play

Three quick minigames build attack, speed and defense. Shoot hoops, bowl and bat together for fun.

Hit level 10

Your fighter is fully grown, and the map opens up.

Claim & defend

Win real places near you and hold them against rival players.

Fighters

Every code hides a fighter

Cereal boxes, soda cans, book covers, posters: any UPC, EAN or QR code works. Each code always produces the same kind of fighter, so you and your friends can scan the same thing and compare.

  • A unique genome. Species, faction, element, weapon class, stats and traits all come from the code. Your copy gets its own small stat spread, so no two owners are identical.
  • 16 combat traits such as Berserker, Vampiric, Ironclad, Momentum and Homebody change how each fighter fights.
  • Scanning is always free. Scan anything to discover what's inside. Keep one new fighter free every day, and build a stable of up to 5 (more with extra slots).
  • Rarity helps but doesn't decide fights. A legendary has only about 22% more total stats than a common, so skill and training matter.

Rarer fighters roll more traits (up to 3) and can glow with an elemental aura. Legendaries often have metallic or jewel skins.

Portraits

Keep it and it's painted

Every fighter you keep is painted as its own collectible card art, in a scene picked from its code and themed on the product it came from.

  • Painted from your actual fighter, in its signature gear, so the art matches the 3D fighter you raise.
  • Be the first. The first player to keep a product paints its portrait; everyone who scans that product later sees it.
  • Share it. Tap a portrait to see it big and share it as a card.

Care

Raise them right

A freshly scanned fighter is a recruit: level 1, no gear, and noticeably smaller than a grown fighter. Every fighter in your stable needs looking after, like a pet.

  • Strength and mood. Both drain over time, even while you're away. A strong, happy fighter learns faster and earns more gold; a neglected one slows down.
  • The pantry. Stock up on Apples, Protein Shakes, Hearty Meals and Health Potions with gold, as many as you like at a time.
  • Gentle reminders. Get a push notification when a fighter gets hungry or feels down.
  • Out on the map, they're set. A fighter guarding a place stays at full strength and mood, and battles on the map don't depend on care.
  • Touch them. Boop its head, tickle it, hold a finger on it to pet it. It watches your finger and reacts.
  • Grows as it levels. Fighters start as kids and reach full size at level 10, then keep bulking up all the way to level 50.

Bowling

Ballpark

Baseball

Read the pitch, step across to meet it, and tap as it reaches the ring. Fastballs, changeups, curves and sliders.

Friends

Friends, trades and profiles

Add friends by scanning each other's QR code in the game, or by friend code. Then show off your stable and swap fighters.

  • Trade fighters one for one with friends. Both of you confirm, and the fighter keeps its level, portrait and signature gear.
  • Your profile shows your record, places and fighters. Use a fighter's portrait or your own photo as your picture.
  • Challenge a friend to a battle from their profile.

The Map

Your neighbourhood is the battlefield

Once a fighter reaches level 10, the live 3D map opens. Nearby real places appear as landmarks you can fight over.

  • Link your turf. Places you hold next to each other join into one territory. Linked places grow and share strength, so every place you add makes the rest harder to take.
  • Real places, real territory. Rival-held places show up in red. Go take them.

Beat the defender

Take on an AI defender fighting on home turf. Win and the place is yours.

Owned

Challenge the owner

Another player holds it? Challenge them. Their placed fighter defends, and if you win, the place changes hands.

PvP

Play at your pace

Async turn-based PvP with push notifications and a 24-hour turn clock. When you're both online, moves land instantly.

Respectful by design. Some places are never on the map: schools and universities, hospitals, clinics and pharmacies, places of worship and cemeteries, police, fire and government buildings, bars and casinos, banks, and private homes.
FAQ

Questions

Is BattleMaps free to play?

Yes. Scanning is always free, and you keep one new fighter free every day. You earn gold by training, battling, from your stable and from the places you hold, and gold buys gear and food. Gems are the premium currency, for keeping extra fighters, revives, training refills, portrait repaints, stable slots and premium auras. You can also trade gems for gold packs. An optional monthly Battle Pass adds a daily gem claim, an extra free keep per day, bonus gold and no ads. A one-time Remove Ads purchase is also available.

Do I have to walk around to play?

No. Scanning, raising, training and sparring work anywhere. The map shows real places near where you are, so exploring new areas gives you new places to claim.

Can my fighter die?

Losing a place fight or a PvP battle sends your fighter to the graveyard, and you can revive it with gems. Sparring against the AI never does.

What happens when my fighter reaches level 50?

Put it to work on the map: a grown fighter holds a place for you and earns gold every hour, while you raise the next one.

What happens to my progress if I change phones?

Link your account with Sign in with Apple or Google. Sign in on your new phone with the same account and your fighters and currencies come with you.

I played an earlier version. What happened to my stuff?

Your fighters carry over. Old coins convert to gold, and returning players get a welcome-back gem gift.

How do I delete my account?

Use the account deletion request form.
